Diplomats visit refugee camp in Kenya that receives grain from Ukraine

Ukrinform
Ukrainian diplomats made a working trip to the Kakuma refugee camp in northern Kenya, whose residents for the past four months have been receiving wheat provided as part of the "Grain from Ukraine" initiative.

This was reported by the press service of Ukraine’s Embassy in Kenya, Ukrinform saw.

Wheat is the key element of the refugees' “food basket”, the report says. The relevant shipment of 25,000 tons of wheat was delivered to Kenya on March 20, 2023.

"The wheat provided under ‘Grain from Ukraine’ program sustains proper ration and secures life of dignity for the inhabitants of Kakuma camp for 4 consecutive months," the diplomatic mission wrote.

The embassy noted that the Kakuma refugee camp, located in the Turkana district in the north of the Republic of Kenya, was founded in 1992. It is one of the largest in Kenya. About 300,000 citizens of various African countries received temporary shelter at the site. The functioning of the camp largely depends on the support of the OOH World Food Program and assistance from donor countries, including Ukraine.
