War update: Defense Forces repel Russian attacks in Kupiansk, Avdiivka sectors

Ukraine’s Defense Forces have repelled Russian attacks in the Kupiansk and Avdiivka directions. A total of 30 combat engagements have occurred on the front over the past day.

The relevant statement was made by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on Facebook, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

In the Melitopol and Berdiansk directions, Ukrainian forces continue the offensive operation, are gaining a foothold within the recaptured frontiers, and carrying out counterbattery measures.

In the past 24 hours, Ukraine’s Air Force has launched six strikes on Russian personnel, ammunition and military equipment clusters. Ukrainian missile and artillery units hit two enemy command posts, five personnel, ammunition and military equipment clusters, four artillery systems in firing position, five ammunition depots, and one electronic warfare system.

Meanwhile, as of 06:00 p.m. August 5, 2023, Russian invaders launched one missile strike and 48 air strikes, and opened fire with multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) eight times.

The threat of Russian missile and air strikes is persisting all over Ukraine, according to the General Staff.

In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remained rather unchanged.

In the Siverskyi and Slobozhanskyi directions, Russian troops launched air strikes near the Kharkiv region’s Odnorobivka, Strilecha and Hatyshche. Over 30 settlements were affected by Russian mortar and artillery strikes in the Chernihiv, Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian defenders are firmly holding defense, and successfully repelled Russian attacks near the Kharkiv region’s Vilshana and Synkivka. The enemy launched air strikes near the Kharkiv region’s Kyslivka and Krokhmalne. Over 10 settlements were affected by enemy artillery and mortar strikes.

In the Lyman direction, Russian occupiers conducted unsuccessful offensive actions near the Luhansk region’s Bilohorivka. The enemy launched air strikes near Nevske, Bilohorivka, Serebrianka, Dibrova and Spirne.

In the Bakhmut direction, Ukraine’s Defense Forces are holding the enemy back near Kurdiumivka. Over 15 settlements were affected by Russian artillery strikes.

In the Avdiivka direction, under extensive artillery fire and air strikes, Ukrainian warriors successfully repelled Russian attacks near the Donetsk region’s Avdiivka. Over 10 settlements were affected by enemy artillery strikes. Russians also launched air strikes near Novokalynove.

In the Marinka direction, Ukrainian forces continue holding back Russia’s onslaught near Marinka. Over 10 settlements were affected by Russian shelling.

In the Shakhtarske direction, Russian troops made unsuccessful attempts to regain their lost positions near Staromaiorske. The enemy launched air strikes near Pavlivka, Zolota Nyva and Staromaiorske. Russian artillery strikes affected the Donetsk region’s Blahodatne, Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, Staromaiorske, and the Zaporizhzhia region’s Levadne.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, Russian occupiers conducted unsuccessful offensive actions near Robotyne. Over 15 settlements were affected by enemy artillery strikes.

In the Kherson direction, Russian artillery strikes affected over 20 settlements.
