War update: Russians fail to regain positions in Zaporizhzhia direction

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Facebook, Ukrinform saw.

"During the past day, the enemy launched seven missile and 42 air strikes, and carried out 66 attacks involving MLRS systems on the positions of our troops and populated areas. As a result of the Russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are dead and wounded among the civilian population, as well as damage to residential buildings and other infrastructure," the message says.

The likelihood of further missile and air strikes on the entire territory of Ukraine remains high, warns the General Staff.

Over the past day, 37 combat engagements have taken place.

In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation has not changed significantly.

On the Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna axes, Russian mortars and artillery targeted over 30 settlements, including Mykhalchyna Sloboda, Hremiach, and Hrinivka in Chernihiv region; Basivka, Stepok, Volfyne, and Pavlivka in Sumy region; and Udy, Okhrimivka, Neskuchne, Bochkove, and Ambarne of Kharkiv region.

In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian soldiers are firmly holding their defense lines. They successfully repelled enemy attacks in the areas of Synkivka, north of Ivanivka in Kharkiv region and south of Novoselivske, Luhansk region. The Russians launched airstrikes in the Kruhliakivka and Kucherivka districts of Kharkiv region. Over 15 settlements, including Dvorichna, Zapadne, Petropavlivka, Podoly, Krasne, Kupiansk, and Vuzlove of Kharkiv region were subjected to Russian artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman direction, the settlements of Kuzmine and Bilohorivka of Luhansk region and Torske, Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, and Rozdolivka of the Donetsk region were hit by enemy artillery.

In the Bakhmut direction, the Russians ran unsuccessful offensive operations in Andriivka, Kurdyumivka, and Druzhba districts of Donetsk region. More than 10 settlements, including Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Ivanivske, Markove, and Chasiv Yar of Donetsk region, were affected by enemy artillery shelling.

In the Avdiivka direction, Ukraine’s defenders successfully repelled attacks by Russian troops in the Avdiivka area under heavy fire from the enemy's aircraft and artillery. Keramik, Nevelske, Novobakhmutivka, Avdiyivka, Severne, Tonenke, Novokalynove, and Pervomaiske in Donetsk region were hit by Russian artillery.

In the Marinka direction, Ukraine’s defense forces continue to hold back the advance of Russian troops. The enemy launched an air strike in the Marinka area, while the settlements of Krasnohorivka, Oleksandropil, Hostre, Heorhiivka, Marinka, Pobieda, Novomykhailivka, and Kostiantynivka were subjected to artillery strikes.

On the Shakhtarske axis, a Russian air strike targeted the Odradne area in Donetsk region. Vodiane, Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, Velyka Novosilka, Blahodatne, Storozheve, Staromayorske, and Rivnopil of Donetsk region were hit by Russian artillery.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy made unsuccessful attempts to regain the position earlier lost in the Robotyne area, Zaporizhzhia region. Russian airstrikes hit the Hulyaipilske, Mala Tokmachka, and Orikhiv districts. More than 15 settlements were affected by artillery fire, including Novodarivka, Komyshuvakha, Shcherbaky, Orikhiv, and Pyatykhatka in Zaporizhzhia region, and Nikopol in Dnipropetrovsk region.

On the Kherson axis, the enemy carried out airstrikes in the districts of Zmiivka, Tomaryne, and Odradokamianka of Kherson region. Over 15 settlements, including Olhivka, Sadove, Prydniprovske, Respublikanets, Kherson, and Kizomys, were subjected to Russian artillery fire.

At the same time, Ukraine’s Defense Forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol and Berdiansk directions, getting entrenched at the regained positions and engaging in counter-battery fire.

"Over the past day, Ukraine’s Air Force carried out nine strikes on enemy manpower and equipment clusters. Also, our defenders destroyed an enemy Ka-52 helicopter and two reconnaissance UAVs of the operational-tactical level. Units of missile and artillery forces in the past day struck two command and control points, three manpower and equipment clusters, five artillery systems in firing positions, and two e-warfare systems," the General Staff concluded.

As reported earlier, Russia’s military death toll in Ukraine as of August 7 amounted to 250,240.
