Ukraine’s ambassador visits U.S. plant producing Abrams tanks
The diplomat reported on her visit via Facebook, Ukrinform reports.
"Behind the timely arrival of American weapons to Ukraine stand not only political decisions, but also the capabilities of American military-industrial complex and people who work at enterprises manufacturing weapons for Ukraine," the ambassador noted.
According to her, together with Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, who co-chairs the Congressional Ukraine Caucus, the chief of the United Autoworkers regional union, Dave Green, and General Michael Lalor, Commanding General U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command, visited the tank plant, also known as the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center (JSMC), which produces Abrams tanks for Ukraine.
"Today, just as during World War 2, when Europe was at war with the greatest enemy of the 20th century, and the plant supplied M5 and M26 Pershing tanks to the front, JSMC products play an important role not only in the liberation of Ukraine, but also in the restoration of peace and tranquility in the European continent and across the world," Markarova said.
After a "detailed meeting" with the heads of the enterprise, many “useful ideas and plans” were conceived, she added, without elaborating.
As reported, a batch of Abrams main battle tanks is expected to arrive in Ukraine as early as September. In August, several Abrams tanks will be shipped to Germany, where they will undergo final modernization before being deployed in Ukraine.
