Bakhmut direction: Defense Forces advancing, seven combat clashes in past day
Serhii Cherevatyi, the spokesman for the Eastern Grouping of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, said this on the air of the United News telethon, Ukrinform reports.
"We still have two active directions - Bakhmut and Lyman-Kupiansk. In the Lyman-Kupiansk [direction], the enemy attempted to attack our positions twice in the Synkivka area in the past day, actively used attack aircraft, carried out 18 air raids, struck 404 times with various types of artillery - from mortars to MLRS. While enemy attacks were being repelled, 41 occupiers were eliminated, 109 were wounded, an enemy T-72 tank, four IFVs, as well as an assault amphibious vehicle, a Msta B howitzer and an UAV, two Lancet-type barrage munitions were destroyed, as well as three field ammunition depots and eight trucks," Cherevatyi said.
He added that the enemy uses a lot of outdated and repaired equipment in this sector of the front.
In the Bakhmut direction, the Defense Forces continue to hold the initiative. However, the enemy is putting up resistance.
"The enemy hit our positions with artillery 583 times. In total, there were seven combat clashes in which 25 occupiers were killed, 97 were wounded, an enemy IFV, a Tyulpan self-propelled 240mm mortar, three self-propelled guns, two guns, and eight field ammunition depots were destroyed. And it should be noted that the Defense Forces destroy field ammunition depots every day. Three Zala drones and one Orlan 10 drone were also destroyed," Cherevatyi said.
As reported by Ukrinform, from February 24, 2022 to August 17, 2023, the Armed Forces of Ukraine eliminated about 256,050 Russian military personnel, including 480 occupiers on August 16. Moreover, the Ukrainian troops destroyed 4,329 (+5 over the past day) enemy tanks, 8,398 (+18) armored combat vehicles, 5,169 (+17) artillery systems, 714 MLRS, 486 (+1) air defense systems, 315 aircraft, 314 helicopters, 4,272 (+24) operational-tactical UAVs, 1,406 (+2) cruise missiles, 18 ships/boats, 7,641 (+27) vehicles and fuel tanks, 773 special equipment units.
