Ukrainian ambassador to Germany hopes for quick decision on Taurus missiles
He said this in Dresden on Friday after a meeting with the Minister President of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer, Ukrinform reports, citing dpa.
"I am pleased that support for this issue is growing. I would like the discussion not to last as long as the whole discussion about Leopard [tanks]," he said.
The diplomat also said he would not like the issue of arms supply to cause conflicts between parties and voters in Germany.
"But we need weapons to be able to defend ourselves in this war and win it," the ambassador said, adding that Ukraine's victory is in the interests of Germany and Europe.
Makeiev also added: "Every aid is important, every support for Ukraine is important. Bus, tank, anti-aircraft gun. All Ukrainians participate in the struggle for freedom. There is no family in Ukraine that was not affected by this war."
He expressed gratitude for the solidarity of the Germans and expressed hope that this solidarity would not diminish.
Kretschmer, in turn, called the war against Ukraine a "terrible crime."
"Solidarity here, in Saxony, in Germany, with people in Ukraine, with this country, with this struggle for freedom is unbreakable," he said.
