War update: Over 30 combat engagements occur on front in past day

In the past 24 hours, Russian troops have launched four missile strikes and 58 air strikes, and opened fire with multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) on Ukrainian positions and settlements 60 times.

The relevant statement was made by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on Facebook, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

On the night of August 23, 2023, Russia again attacked Ukraine’s territory with Iranian-made Shahed-136/131 suicide drones. The details are yet to be updated.

The threat of Russian missile and air strikes is persisting all over Ukraine, according to the General Staff.

Over 30 combat engagements have occurred on the front in the past 24 hours.

In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remained rather unchanged.

In the Siverskyi and Slobozhanskyi directions, Russian troops launched an air strike near the Chernihiv region’s Popivka. Over 20 settlements were affected by Russian mortar and artillery strikes in the Chernihiv, Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

In the Kupiansk direction, enemy artillery and mortar strikes affected such settlements as the Kharkiv region’s Berestove and Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, and the Luhansk region’s Tverdokhlibove.

In the Lyman direction, Russian occupier launched air strikes near the Luhansk region’s Serebrianske forestry, and the Donetsk region’s Vesele. About 15 settlements were affected by enemy artillery strikes.

In the Bakhmut direction, Russians launched an air strike near the Donetsk region’s Ivanivske. Over 20 settlements were affected by enemy artillery strikes.

In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian warriors successfully repelled Russian attacks near the Donetsk region’s Avdiivka. Enemy artillery strikes affected Novokalynove, Stepove, Avdiivka, Sieverne, Tonenke and Umanske.

In the Marinka direction, Ukrainian forces continue holding back Russia’s onslaught near the Donetsk region’s Marinka. The enemy launched an air strike near Krasnohorivka. Russian artillery strikes affected Marinka, Pobieda, Yelyzavetivka, Novomykhailivka, Katerynivka, Kostiantynivka and Antonivka.

In the Shakhtarske direction, Russian invaders launched air strikes near the Donetsk region’s Vodiane and Urozhaine. Enemy artillery strikes affected over 15 settlements.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, Russian occupiers launched air strikes near the Zaporizhzhia region’s Mala Tokmachka, Yehorivka, Novodanylivka and Robotyne. Over 15 settlements were affected by enemy artillery strikes.

In the Kherson direction, Russians launched an air strike near the Kherson region’s Romashkove. Enemy artillery strikes affected Novovorontsovka, Kherson, Bilozerka, Veletenske and Komyshany.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Defense Forces continue the offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, where they are gaining a foothold within the recaptured frontiers and carrying out counterbattery measures.

In the past 24 hours, Ukraine’s Air Force has launched 11 strikes on Russian personnel clusters and two strikes on enemy surface-to-air missile systems.

Ukrainian missile and artillery units hit three enemy personnel, ammunition and military equipment clusters, two ammunition depots, one command post, one artillery system in firing position, and one TOS-1A heavy flamethrower system.
