State Border Guard Service: Situation on border with Belarus under control
"The situation on the border with Belarus remains fully controlled both by the units of the State Border Guard Service and other components of the defense forces which also reinforce this direction," Andriy Demchenko, the spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, said during the United News nationwide telethon, Ukrinform reports.
According to Demchenko, the attention of border guards was focused, in particular, on the presence of Russian mercenaries in Belarus but their number did not pose a significant threat to Ukraine.
"They did not have enough forces to carry out any full-scale invasion but, of course, they could be involved in creating some provocations. Fortunately, we did not notice such actions from that side on our border. And on August 23, even before the events that took place in the territory of the Russian Federation, we began to notice that the number of Russian mercenaries in Belarus gradually began to decrease," Demchenko noted.
According to him, the further stay of the Wagner members in Belarus is highly questionable after the probable death of PMC Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin.
