The White House has unveiled a request to the U.S. Congress for a $106 billion aid package, most of it to support Ukraine, as well as to respond to the situation in Israel and other urgent priorities.

This is said in the official statement published on the website of the White House, Ukrinform reports.

“Today, the President is requesting supplemental funding from Congress that that advances our national security and supports our allies and partners,” the document says.

In the section on support to Ukraine, it is noted that funds will be used to provide additional weapons and equipment to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine succeed on the battlefield and protect its people against Russian attacks. It addition, the support will be used for continued military, intelligence, and other defense support, including robust investments in the defense industrial base, transportation costs of U.S. personnel and equipment, and continuing an enhanced U.S. troop presence in Europe among other critical support activities, in response to Russia’s war against Ukraine.

The package also envisages “critical economic and civilian security assistance”, including direct budget support to help Ukraine continue to provide critical services to its people and sustain its economy while under attack; assistance for investments in critical infrastructure; support for civilian law enforcement; and assistance for demining in territory recently liberated from Russian occupation.

The funds are also intended to support Ukrainians displaced by Russia’s war and provide safety and shelter in the United States through Uniting for Ukraine. The Administration’s request will also provide funding for nuclear and radiological crisis management, response, and partner capacity building in case of emergencies.

At the same time, the Biden administration may soon send another funding request to the U.S. Congress for domestic priorities.

As Ukrinform reported, U.S. President Joe Biden in his address to the American nation called Ukraine's victory in the war with Russia, as well as Israel's victory in the confrontation with Hamas, “vital for America's national security”.
