Germany helps Ukraine collect evidence of Russia's environmental crimes

Germany will support the government of Ukraine in collecting evidence of Russia's environmental crimes, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.

This is reported by the press service of the Ministry of Environment, Ukrinform reported.

"We will work with our partners on the architecture of the Platform, as well as on the methodology for assessing environmental damage caused by the war. German colleagues will support the Ukrainian government in collecting evidence of Russia's environmental crimes. We also plan to implement pilot projects along the full track: from recording such crimes to determining damages and preparing lawsuits," said Ruslan Strilets, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources.

He noted that since the full-scale invasion, the State Environmental Inspectorate has already recorded more than 2,500 Russian crimes against the Ukrainian environment. A year ago, the amount of accrued losses reached about 26 billion euros. Now it has already doubled to €55 billion.

As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved PricewaterhouseCoopers (Audit) as the auditor of the financial statements of Naftogaz of Ukraine. The firm will conduct the statutory audit of the financial statements of Naftogaz of Ukraine in 2023-2024.

PwC Germany is a team of professionals with extensive experience in litigation, disputes and international arbitration.
