Сomms cable between Sweden, Estonia damaged by “external force” - report
That’s according to a Swedish government update released on Monday, Ukrinform reports.
“It has been confirmed that the cable has been damaged through external force or tampering. The damage did not affect the function of the cable. The damage occurred within the Estonian economic zone,” the report reads.
It is noted that over the last few days, Swedish government agencies have obtained information about damage to the telecommunications cable laid between Sweden and Estonia.
The damage seems to have occurred in close connection to two other known incidents: one on a Finnish-Estonian gas pipeline and one on a Finnish-Estonian communications cable.
It is not yet known what caused the damage, but the ability to communicate has not been affected.
It reported earlier, the incident on the Balticconnector gas pipeline, which connects Estonia and Finland, occurred on the night of October 8. The gas flow was suspended over a leak caused by an external force. It also became known about damage to the cable laid between Estonia and Finland, which was also caused by deliberate external influence.
Finland is investigating the causes of the gas pipeline incident in Finnish waters, and the Estonia authorities are investigated the situation in Estonian waters.
