Ukraine interested in joint production of weapons with Sweden - Zelensky
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated this in his speech at the annual Swedish national conference "Society and Defense," Ukrinform reports.
“Ukraine is already and will always be one of the most significant European donors of security. We strive for the best weapons and technology in the world, for our own security and the security of our partners. So, joint production with Sweden is a priority for us. And I am confident that the day will come when we will be able to see the opening in Ukraine of the first joint production with you,” the President said.
He noted that Sweden's contribution to Ukraine's defense support: the provided military equipment and weapons help Ukraine and save the lives of soldiers.
According to Zelensky, Ukraine has already begun joint defense activities with Türkiye, Romania, Poland, Great Britain. In addition, there are corresponding agreements with Czechia, the United States, and Germany.
He also emphasized that solidarity is the basis of security in the modern world, which is proved by Ukraine's resistance to the Russian invasion.
“We see that Russian aggressive ambitions can be stopped only where there is sufficient strength to stop them. And we will provide such strength only together, in solidarity, only by working with each other to strengthen each other,” he said.
Zelensky also added that when a nation relies on solidarity from others, and therefore on the support, it can successfully defend itself even against a much larger enemy. As an example, he spoke of Russia's recent massive attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure and population, which were repelled thanks to air defense systems and other weapons provided by partners.
As reported, Ukraine and Sweden are discussing joint work in the field of innovation, as well as the possible transfer of Gripen aircraft to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Swedish Armed Forces noted that the issue of transferring Gripen aircraft to Ukraine is being discussed at both the political and military operational levels.
