General Staff: 29 combat clashes on front lines

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said this in its evening update posted on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

Throughout the day, the Air Force of Ukraine launched four strikes on the areas where the personnel of the Russian invaders were concentrated. Air defense forces and means destroyed a Kh-59 guided missile. Ukrainian missile forces hit one enemy command post, one ammunition depot and one artillery unit.

In turn, the enemy launched 6 missile attacks and 40 airstrikes, as well as 21 MLRS attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. As a result of Russian terrorist attacks, there are dead and wounded among the civilian population. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.

In total, 29 combat clashes took place on the battlefield throughout the day. The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains difficult.

In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation has not changed significantly.

In the Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna sectors, the enemy keeps military presence in the border area, conducting active subversive activities in order to prevent the transfer of Ukrainian troops to threatening directions, and increases the density of mine and explosive barriers along the state border of Ukraine. About 20 settlements came under enemy artillery and mortar attacks.

In the Kupiansk sector, the Defense Forces repelled two attacks near Synkivka and Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to improve the tactical position. The Russian army also launched an airstrike in the Berestove district of the Kharkiv region. About 10 settlements, including Kharkiv region’s Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, and Tabaivka, came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled three enemy attacks east of Terny, Donetsk region. More than 10 settlements were affected by artillery and mortar shelling, among them - Bilohorivka of the Luhansk region and Terny, Yampolivka, Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, Rozdolivka of the Donetsk region.

In the Bakhmut direction, the Defense Forces repelled an enemy attack near Andriivka of the Donetsk region. The enemy launched an airstrike in the area of Druzhba settlement of the Donetsk region. More than 10 settlements were subjected to enemy artillery and mortar attacks.

In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled five enemy attacks in the areas of Novobakhmutivka, Avdiivka and another 11 attacks near Pervomaiske and Nevelske of the Donetsk region, where the invaders, with the support of aviation, unsuccessfully tried to improve their tactical position. About 15 settlements, including Novokalynove, Novobakhmutivka, Berdychi, Avdiivka, Severne, and Pervomaiske of the Donetsk region, came under enemy artillery and mortar shelling.

In the Marinka sector, the Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy in the areas of Marinka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where the invaders, with the support of aircraft, unsuccessfully tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops three times. The enemy also launched airstrikes near Krasnohorivka and Heorhiivka in the Donetsk region. Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Novomykhailivka and Kostyantynivka came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.

In the Shakhtarske sector, the enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions. Russian forces shelled more than 10 settlements, including Vuhledar, Zolota Nyva, Urozhaine, Staromaiorske of the Donetsk region, with artillery and mortars.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled an enemy attack west of Verbove of the Zaporizhzhia region. More than 15 settlements came under enemy artillery and mortar attacks.

In the Kherson direction, Kherson of the Kherson region and Dmytrivka, Ochakiv of the Mykolaiv region were subjected to artillery shelling. The invaders also launched airstrikes on the areas of Respublikanets, Chervonyi Mayak, Zmiivka, and Krynka settlements of the Kherson region.

"The enemy does not abandon its intention to drive our units from their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River. Thus, throughout the day, the enemy conducted two unsuccessful assault actions, but Ukrainian soldiers continue to hold their positions, inflicting significant losses on the invaders," the General Staff said.

As Ukrinform reported, on the night of January 7, Ukraine’s air defense forces destroyed 21 of 28 Shahed-136/131 combat UAVs.
