Spain to join several coalitions in support of Ukraine
That's according to a statement posted on the website of the Spanish Defense Ministry, Ukrinform reports.
"Spain plans to contribute to the Maritime Security, Field Artillery, Ground-Based Air Defense, Information Technologies and Demining Coalitions," the statement said.
Minister of Defense Margarita Robles at a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group on January 23 confirmed Spain's intention to continue helping with the training of the Ukrainian military, noting that more than 3,500 Ukrainian service members have already received training in Spain.
The Spanish Defense Ministry also announced new specialized training modules for the Ukrainian military on the Patriot, NASAMS and Hawk anti-aircraft systems, as well as underwater demining.
As part of the humanitarian support provided to Ukraine by Spain, the minister confirmed that the program had been successfully initiated to accommodate 400 relatives of fallen Ukrainian soldiers in military residences where they can rest for a few days.
"At the end of her speech, Robles reiterated to the nations and organizations participating in the Contact Group Spain's firm commitment to supporting Ukraine for as long as necessary," the statement said.
Spain announced in October 2023 that it would provide Ukraine with six launchers for Hawk anti-aircraft missile systems and 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition.
