Explaining complex things in simple words: Ramstein meeting, non-recognition of Putin's legitimacy, nuclear safety of humanity
Ukrinform
The Center for Strategic Communication and Information Security pursues efforts to provide a brief explanation to foreign audiences on the current topics of particular interest as regards Ukraine.
RAMSTEIN
On April 26, the 21st Ramstein-format meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group will be held online
- The Ramstein format has existed for two years. The first meeting was held on April 26, 2022.
- During these two years, the "Ramstein" coalition proved its unity and determination, made an invaluable contribution to the support of Ukraine's defense capabilities in the face of Russian aggression.
- Thanks to the Ukraine Defence Contact Group, the term "Ramstein" has become synonymous with an effective international coalition. On the agenda is the expansion of areas where an international coalition should be formed to protect against aggression.
- At the next meeting, the parties will discuss how to quickly overcome the difficulties and problems that have accumulated during Ukraine's six-month wait for a decision on U.S. aid.
- ‘’Politically, we have already worked for support. Now we need to work on filling the packages with the necessary weapons, and on logistics," President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
NON-RECOGNITION OF PUTIN'S LEGITIMACY
On April 25, the European Parliament adopted a resolution recognizing Putin as an illegitimate president.
- The resolution calls on the international community not to recognize the results of the Russian pseudo-elections of March 15-17, as they were neither free nor fair.
- Also, the parliamentarians condemned the pseudo-elections in the Ukrainian temporarily occupied territories and called for the introduction of sanctions against their organizers.
- Putin has ceased to be a legitimate head of state. He is a usurper. And this is another reason to limit all ties with the criminal authorities of the Russian Federation.
- The text of the resolution expressed regret over the fact that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban backed away from the EU's general line and congratulated Putin on his ‘’victory .’’
- The campaign to deny Putin's legitimacy continues. The day before, on April 17, PACE adopted a similar decision.
NUCLEAR SAFETY OF HUMANITY
April 26 is the International Chornobyl Disaster Remembrance Day
- Ukraine is one of the most affected countries in the world among those who have experienced the impact of nuclear weapons. Chernobyl is one of the sad ‘’visiting-card’’ of our country.
- Disregard for human life and safety on the part of the USSR totalitarian state was the cause of the Chernobyl disaster in 1986. Currently, Ukraine is fighting aggression in order not to be dragged back into the totalitarian past.
- Ukraine takes the issue of nuclear safety as seriously and responsibly as possible and has the moral right to demand the same from the world community.
- Moscow has not learned the Chornobyl lessons. In February 2022, the perpetrator returned to the scene of the crime, Russian troops occupied the exclusion zone, exposing humanity to a new surge of radiation pollution.
- Russia uses nuclear danger in the war with Ukraine threatening with nuclear weapons, provoking dangerous situations at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Station.
- We must put an end to Russian aggression and demand the denuclearization of the Russian Federation with joint efforts. Moscow has proven that it cannot be trusted in matters of nuclear safety control.
