Canada has no plans to resume mission of military instructors in Ukraine

Defense Minister Bill Blair told reporters on Monday following a NATO ministerial meeting in Brussels, Ukrinform reports citing Reuters.

"There was discussion of a NATO mission to enhance the training. At the present time, the circumstances are not right to deploy - in my view - the Canadian trainers in Ukraine," Blair told reporters.

In this regard, he expressed his belief that there is now " quite an understandable concern about expanding a training mission into Ukraine at the current time."

As reported, since 2015, Canada has helped train more than 40,000 Ukrainian soldiers at training grounds in western Ukraine. Just before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Canada withdrew its training contingent. Instructors moved to the UK and Poland to resume work with Ukrainian military units.
