Enemy continues attempts to capture Chasiv Yar, Russian losses are up to 80 people daily - military
Nazar Voloshyn, a spokesman for the Khortytsia operational and strategic group of troops, said this on the air of the United News telethon, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"For several months now, the enemy has been trying to capture Chasiv Yar and its surroundings in that direction. Over 1,100 mortar and artillery attacks took place in this area in just one day. And in the area of Chasiv Yar... [ecorded] more than 260 attacks from various types of weapons were made. This suggests that the majority of the enemy's attacks are on the town of Chasiv Yar itself. Also, all the assaults - there were 9 of them in that direction - are conducted by the enemy in order to take this town," he said.
According to him, enemy aviation was working in that direction yesterday - it carried out 11 air strikes and dropped 13 guided bombs.
"Enemy losses in that area are considerable. In the morning, more than 50 occupants were killed and more than 80 were wounded. This is the total for this day. The previous day, the enemy was more active there, more than 250 occupants were killed and almost 400 were wounded. For some time now, Yar has been standing in the way of the Russians," stated Voloshyn.
The spokesperson assured that the Defence Forces are doing everything to prevent the enemy from taking Chasiv Yar, its surroundings or the adjacent settlements. According to him, all Russian assaults are failing and Ukrainian defenders are holding a strong defence.
Answering a question about the average daily losses of the Russian Federation near Chasiv Yar, he said that the enemy loses 60 to 80 people a day.
"Over the last day, 121 combat engagements took place in the eastern operational zone, ours is the Khortytsia Joint Forces Operation Centre. The enemy fired almost 3,200 times at the positions of our defenders over the last day. Also, the Russian Federation conducted 55 air strikes in our operational area [during the day], using 78 drones and 280 kamikaze strikes," the spokesman said.
According to him, the enemy is trying to conduct active hostilities in several areas, but the Defence Forces are doing everything to prevent Russia from making advances in certain areas.
As Ukrinform reported, on 21 June, Voloshyn said that the Russian military had begun to storm Chasiv Yar in Donetsk region from the Toretsk direction.
