U.S. may soon allow Ukraine to strike targets up to 300 km inside Russia – ex-Polish minister
Janusz Onyszkiewicz, former Minister of National Defense of Poland, expressed this opinion to an Ukrinform correspondent.
"I think that this limit of 100 kilometers will soon be expanded, because from an operational point of view, 100 kilometers is not enough, because it allows the Russian army to take certain actions in strategic depth. Therefore, this zone should be covered with the possibility of launching missile strikes up to 300 kilometers deep," Onyszkiewicz said.
He stressed that the Russian offensive in the Kharkiv region had failed, which is an "unconditional success of the Ukrainian army."
Onyszkiewicz expressed hope that Russia would not dare to open another new front in northern Ukraine, for example from Belarusian territory. On the other hand, if this were to happen, the question would arise not only of weakening or lifting restrictions on the use of American weapons, but also of the need to launch strikes against Russian targets inside Belarus.
After the U.S. authorized strikes on Russia, the dynamics on the northeastern front changed almost immediately, and Ukrainian forces managed to stabilize the situation there. However, the Ukrainian military and officials are insisting on obtaining U.S. permission for ATACMS strikes against specific targets located at a distance of over 100 kilometers.
