Sentsov: Person needs to be motivated, then he effective on battlefield
This opinion was expressed in an interview with Ukrinform by Ukrainian film director and soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleh Sentsov.
"Recruiting should be direct. That is, the brigade gives its advertising, invites people to such and such positions, the person is interviewed, a contract is signed with him, he is taken to his training center, a small... Everyone trains their own fighters, sees who they will fight with, sees their commander. He is already in this family," Sentsov says.
He considers the efficiency and safety of large training centers to be not as high as small ones "scattered" around the country. The lieutenant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is convinced that a person cannot be forced to fight if he does not want to. A person needs to be motivated, then such a fighter will be effective on the battlefield.
"A person's motivation is very important. This is very important in war. There is very little sense in an unmotivated fighter. A motivated fighter is worth five at all levels, especially in the infantry," Sentsov stressed.
Among the motivation tools, he also refers to the introduction of transparent, clear rules of the game for everyone: so that people see that they are going to war for two or three years, because everyone is fighting.
Sentsov also believes that it is right to give people the opportunity to choose where they want to serve, including units, because this makes it possible to make the most of people.
Infantryman Sentsov also spoke about his own motivation. One of the reasons why he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine was the desire for revenge, but in more than two years of being on the front line, he did not kill a single Russian at point-blank range, on purpose.
Oleh Sentsov is a former political prisoner: he spent five years in a Russian colony, spent many months on a hunger strike, and was exchanged in 2019.
