Patients of several departments are being evacuated from the National Children's Specialised Hospital "Okhmatdyt", which was damaged by a Russian missile strike.

Health Minister Viktor Lyashko said this on the air of the United News telethon, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"The key task is to evacuate the building that was also damaged, where oncology, traumatology, surgery, and onco-haematology were located. We are taking the children to other hospitals in stages, as there is no electricity, oxygen or water supply in Okhmatdyt. Our task is to minimise the potential negative consequences for those who were undergoing treatment," Lyashko said.

According to the minister, 5 buildings of Okhmatdyt were affected by the attack. Currently, 20 people are known to have been injured, and the data is constantly being updated. Many of the doctors at the hospital were injured, but continue to work and help others.

In addition, Lyashko noted, the building of the Centre for Paediatric Cardiac Surgery, which is located on the territory of Okhmatdyt, was damaged. At the time of the strike, three heart surgeries were taking place there, and the explosion damaged windows and contaminated the chest cavity of patients. According to Lyashko, they are now trying to save the children in other hospitals.

As Ukrinform reported, during the attack on Ukraine on 8 July, Russian troops fired more than 40 missiles of various types. Residential buildings, infrastructure and a children's hospital were damaged.

Two people, including a doctor, were killed in the Okhmatdyt children's hospital as a result of the missile attack, and 16 people were reported injured.
