There may be about 400 sea mines in the Black Sea, but it is difficult to estimate the exact number due to the mines washed away as a result of the Kakhovka HPP explosion.

Dmytro Pletenchuk, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, said this on the air of the United News telethon, Ukrinform reports.

"The latest official figures announced by the authorities are 400 mines, but this is a rather approximate number, taking into account the number of mines and explosive devices that washed away to the Black Sea as a result of the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station by the Russians, it is difficult to calculate," he said.

According to him, Dnipro River was mined quite densely, and after the occupiers blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, "of course, the big water washed it all away" into the Dnipro-Bug estuary.

"The number of mines will be determined only during the demining operations in the Black Sea. The global experience of similar conflicts shows that this is a job for years," Pletenchuk summarized.

As Ukrinform reported, Russia is deprived of the opportunity to mine the Black Sea, as the Ukrainian Defense Forces ensure the safety of civilian shipping.
