Russians trying to seize Toretsk as fighting ongoing on city outskirts
That’s according to Nazar Voloshyn, the spokesman for the Khortytsia Grouping of Troops, who spoke on the air of the national telethon, Ukrinform reports.
"The situation in the axis has not changed significantly as the enemy is conducting combat operations on the outskirts of the city, there is no enemy in town but they are employing aviation too actively against this populace, using gliding bombs and unguided aerial missiles. Over the past day, the enemy fired more than 200 shots from various types of weapons in that direction, in particular in the Toretsk area. In the past day, 24 enemy attacks took place there – near the settlements of Pivnichne, New York, Toretsk, and Deliivka," Voloshyn said.
He added that the enemy intends to enter the city and seize it while but the Defense Forces are doing their best to rebuff the onslaught. Also, according to the spokesman, the enemy lost more than 40 personnel, several howitzers, and a vehicle in this direction.
Currently, the Defense Forces are fighting for the settlement of New York, where the enemy is conducting assault operations.
Answering questions about the amount of enemy manpower in the Toretsk area, Voloshyn noted that the Russians are trying to join forces to advance to the administrative borders of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
"The 277th rifle battalion, 109th rifle regiment of the mobilization reserve, which is trying to break through to New York, are fighting against us in the Toretsk axis, as well as the 27th motorized rifle division and 506th and 589th motorized rifle regiments, which were also repeatedly spotted on Ukraine’s territories and have already been devastated by our units," the spokesman said.
Regarding the situation in Kharkiv region, Voloshyn reported that the Defense Forces are trying to restore positions and defeat the enemy. At the same time, the Russian invasion forces are regrouping units of 138 separate motorized rifle brigades, 6th army, and 83 separate air assault brigade.
Over the past day in the Kharkiv axis, the enemy lost more than 180 personnel, several armored fighting vehicles, nine artillery systems, 11 vehicles, four units of specialized equipment, and 70 dugouts along with manpower.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, the total combat losses suffered by Russian troops in Ukraine from February 24, 2022 to July 11, 2024 amount to an estimated 555,620, including 1,110 in the past 24 hours.
