The NATO Representation to Ukraine will increase the number of international staff and focus more on achieving interoperability of our country with other members of the Alliance following the summit in Washington.

This was stated by Deputy Head of the NATO Representation to Ukraine Peter Hauge Berg during a speech at a roundtable discussion at Ukrinform on "Transatlantic Unity and Ukraine: NATO's Strategic Vision for the 2024 Washington Summit".

“We were prior to the war two internationals. Now we are close to being 20 by the end of the summer. Hopefully we will be able to double that within a year,” Peter Hauge Berg said.

Berg added that the new high representative, whose appointment was agreed upon at the summit in Washington, would give Ukraine access to his connections, influence, and previous experience.

“But I think you will see a notably difference in the way that the representation will act because of that. What's important about that person as well is the role, because it will be their civilian interface for NATO,” Peter Hauge Berg added.

According to him, over time, the Mission will focus much more on promoting interoperability, which will ultimately contribute to Ukraine's integration into NATO and its approximation to its member states.

As reported, last week the 75th anniversary NATO Summit took place in Washington, D.C., and one of the main issues on the agenda was the increase of military assistance to Ukraine and strengthening the Alliance's deterrence and defense system.
