Ukrainian air defenders down 16 Shahed drones, two Kh-59 missiles overnight

Ukraine's air defense forces destroyed 16 Russian Shahed drones and two Kh-59 guided air missiles overnight into Thursday, July 18.

Ukrainian Air Force Commander Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk said this in a post on the Telegram messaging app, Ukrinform reports.

According to him, on the night of July 17-18, the enemy attacked Ukraine with 16 Shahed-131/136 strike drones launched from the Kursk region and three guided air missiles launched from the south, including two Kh-59/Kh-69s and one Kh-35.

In total, radio engineering troops detected and tracked 19 aerial targets.

Mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force, and electronic warfare units were involved in repelling the aerial attack.

The defenders of the sky shot down 16 Shahed drones and two Kh-59 guided air missiles in the Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv and Kharkiv regions, Oleshchuk said.

Most targets were destroyed on the eastern front, in the area of responsibility of the Air Command East.
