Elderly woman wounded in Sumy region as result of Russian shelling

An 82-year-old woman was wounded in the Bilopilia community as a result of Russian shelling.

This was reported by the Prosecutor's Office of Sumy region in Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

"On 31 July 2024, at night, using methods of warfare prohibited by international law, the enemy attacked the civilian infrastructure of the Bilopilia community of the Sumy district with a drone. As a result of the attack, an 82-year-old woman was injured," the statement said.

It is noted that the woman was hospitalised.

In addition, private residential buildings were damaged as a result of the shelling.

Currently, under the procedural supervision of the Sumy District Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation is being conducted into the violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Prosecutors, in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies, are documenting the consequences of the shelling.

In the future, the criminal proceedings will be transferred to the SSU Office in Sumy region.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, police recorded 24 attacks in Sumy region over the past day, with ten communities in the region under attack. There is destruction of civilian infrastructure.
