Explaining complex things in simple words: Events in Russia's Kursk region, Niger diplomatic demarche, successful military operation

The Center for Strategic Communication and Information Security pursues efforts to provide a brief explanation to foreign audiences on the current topics of particular interest as regards Ukraine.

EVENTS IN THE KURSK OBLAST OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION

Russian sources claim that on August 6, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine crossed the state border and occupied several settlements in the Suzhansky and Korenevsky districts of the Kursk oblast.

  • Ukraine did not make official announcements regarding the events in the Kursk oblast. Considering many years of lying activities, disinformation, and propaganda, Russian reports do not deserve trust
  • It was Russia that started the war and the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It would be naïve for the aggressor to believe that the war would bypass its territory.
  • Ukraine may conduct hostilities on the territory of the Russian Federation, exercising its legal right to self-defence. Ukraine has not yet fully used this opportunity.
  • The events in the Kursk oblast caused some disorientation among Russian propagandists. Reports of significant losses (tanks, Ka-52 attack helicopter, etc.) rather demonstrated the weakness of the defence of the Russian rear.
  • It turned out that Moscow, contrary to Putin's personal assurances, is dragging its conscripts into the war. And the Kadyrov gangs ran away in fear as soon as they felt the threat of real battles.

NIGER DIPLOMATIC DEMARCHE

Following Mali, Niger's leadership announced the severing of diplomatic relations with Ukraine and made an appeal to the UN Security Council to discuss Ukraine's “aggression”.

  • Ukraine has never committed unfriendly actions towards Niger; therefore, such decisions and statements of the country's government are not justified. But, similarly to Mali's statements, they are based on unofficial data and unproven facts.
  • Bamako’s and Niamey’s decisions were made under pressure from the Kremlin because, after the coup d'état, pro-Russian forces supported by PMC Wagner came to power in these countries.
  • Kyiv reserves the right to take all necessary measures of political and diplomatic response to such unfriendly steps towards Ukraine.
  • We warn the people of Mali and Niger that dependence on Moscow has not yet brought security and prosperity to any country in the world.
  • Ukraine is ready to discuss the problems of aggression and terrorism in the UN Security Council because, for more than 10 years, it has been opposing the Russian aggressor and terrorist, who, among other things, regularly recruits foreign mercenaries to participate in hostilities against Ukraine.

SUCCESSFUL SPECIAL OPERATION

On the night of August 6, Special Operations Forces of the Artan Unit and the Maritime Centre of HUR of the Ministry of Defence carried out a successful raid on the temporarily occupied Tendra Spit, where they destroyed equipment, personnel, and fortifications of the invaders.

  • Having completed the assigned task, including its secret part, the military scouts left without casualties.
  • The Ukrainian militaries once again demonstrated a high level of training, courage, and endurance. The HUR operations of the Ministry of Defence will definitely be included in the textbooks of military skill.
  • The enemy will not feel safe anywhere, especially in foreign territories he has seized.
  • Tendra Spit, like all other temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, will definitely be liberated from Russian occupation and restored.
