Enemy reduces intensity of artillery shelling in southern Ukraine – defense forces
Dmytro Lykhoviy, a spokesman for the Tavria operational and strategic grouping of troops, said this on Ukrainian television, Ukrinform reports.
“It appears that the enemy is reducing the intensity of artillery shelling in the operational area of the Tavria grouping of troops. This relates to the Kherson region and the Zaporizhzhia region. Yesterday, we recorded 256 Russian attacks on military positions; they used 1,270 rounds of ammunition. There were also 20 separate attacks on 15 populated areas, where two civilians were killed and at least three more were wounded,” said Lykhoviy.
According to him, comparing the statistics of artillery attacks on military targets, the Russians have been inflicting about 100 fewer strikes per day over the past month, using about 1,000 rounds of ammunition.
“They used 1,270 rounds of ammunition yesterday, compared to 2,000 a month ago, or it even reached up to 3,000. It is hard to say what is the reason for this. It seems unlikely that the Russian military is experiencing an ammunition shortage, particularly given the sustained level of shelling of populated areas. However, this is a confirmation that they prioritize other areas,” said the spokesman.
He noted that in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, Russian troops lacked resources, including human resources, to conduct effective ground operations and infantry offensives. In addition, the occupiers have not been using armored vehicles for a long time, and the intensity of artillery strikes is decreasing.
