More cases of executions of Ukrainian soldiers by Russian forces – Ombudsman
Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, said this during a television broadcast, according to Ukrinform.
"There are more such cases indeed. Legally, we must interpret these as executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian soldiers. According to the Geneva Convention, we record that Ukrainian soldiers have fulfilled all conditions to be considered prisoners of war: they laid down their arms and indicated they were no longer engaging in combat. Typically, Russians force them to lie on the ground and then execute them point-blank. Legally, this constitutes a grave war crime."
He added that while earlier such information primarily came from intelligence reports, now the growing use of drones on the battlefield has provided video evidence of these crimes.
"Sometimes, we decide to publish these videos so the international community can fully comprehend who we are fighting. These are individuals who place no value on human life. Even in war, there are rules and laws of armed conflict, including the Geneva Conventions. But for Russians, these conventions are non-existent," Lubinets said.
Previously, it was reported that Russian soldiers executed four Ukrainian defenders taken prisoners in Pokrovsk district of Donetsk region.
