North Korean military servicemen remain in the territory of Russia’s Kursk region where they are yet to take direct part in hostilities against Ukraine, but at the same time they are ready to engage in combat at any moment.

That’s according to the U.S. Department of Defense’s assessment, reported by spokesperson Sabrina Singh, who spoke at a briefing on Monday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

DPRK troops remain in Kursk region, the spokesperson noted, emphasizing that the U.S. has no verified data on North Korean soldiers taking direct part in hostilities.

At the same time, Washington is aware that DPRK soldiers are ready to engage in combat so the Pentagon continues to monitor the developments, Singh noted.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry reported on the likelihood of Russia increasing the North Korean contingent to 100,000 troops.
