Ukrainian border guards deny Russian troops breached border in Sumy region

Ukraine's State Border Guard Service has refuted claims of any Russian troop incursion into the Sumy region.

The border agency's spokesperson, Andrii Demchenko, said this in a comment to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Border units in this sector, within their area of responsibility and the positions they hold, have not recorded any attempts by Russian forces to enter Ukrainian territory. Additionally, no such information has been received from other Ukrainian Defense Forces stationed in the area," Demchenko said.

He said it would be difficult for the enemy to advance in that area in the Sumy region, because the terrain is swampy and it is quite difficult to gain a foothold there.

However, it is always worth remembering that the border line with Russia is actually the front line, where Ukrainian forces hold their positions to counter any enemy attempts to enter Ukrainian territory, Demchenko said.

The Sumy Regional Military Administration also dismissed the reports, categorizing them as disinformation.

"Claims of the Russians breaking through the border in the Sumy region are false. The media reports spreading these allegations are hostile disinformation and do not reflect reality," the report said.

Sumy Regional Governor Volodymyr Artiukh said that there was currently no data from the military about any changes along the border and that the situation was under control.

The regional military administration asked citizens to trust only official sources of information and not to succumb to manipulations from the enemy trying to destabilize the situation in the Sumy region.

Earlier, some media outlets reported that Russian forces had allegedly seized a border area near the village of Oleksandriia in the Sumy region.
