
Battalion commander from Ukraine's 37th Marine Brigade killed in action
The 37th Marine Brigade announced this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.
Stohnii's military service began in 2015, where he took part in combat missions during the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) and later the Joint Forces Operation (JFO). Following Russia's full-scale invasion, he served in the 60th Mechanized Brigade as a reconnaissance platoon commander.
He played a key role in battles to liberate the right bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region and in the defense of Bakhmut. Known for his bravery, he repeatedly risked his life to evacuate wounded soldiers from the battlefield and was wounded himself.


Stohnii also commanded the reconnaissance company of the 82nd Air Assault Brigade. In the fall of 2024, he joined the 37th Marine Brigade, first as acting commander of the 1st Marine Battalion before officially assuming the role.
The brigade praised his leadership, courage, and resilience, emphasizing that he fought side by side with his soldiers in numerous battles.
