'Contract 18-24' expansion, soldier training modernization: Zelensky holds Staff meeting
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this in his evening address, Ukrinform reports.
"I held a Staff meeting today, covering various issues, including the training of our soldiers and its modernization," he said.
According to Zelensky, General Oleh Apostol, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, reported on training improvements. These include the implementation of modern techniques, enhanced psychological support, information security, and cooperation with international partners.
The president noted that some issues still need to be addressed.
During the meeting, officials also reported on the initial results of the "Contract 18-24" program.
"We will expand it. I was on the front line on Saturday, and there was a request from specific brigades. We will respond positively to this request -- more brigades will be able to accept young volunteers," Zelensky said.
He said that the program should also be extended to the National Guard and border units.
"All effective units within the Defense Forces must receive all capabilities to develop and strengthen the potential of our state, our resilience," the president said.
On February 11, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a one-year contract system for volunteer fighters aged 18 to 24, offering an annual income of up to UAH 2 million.
So far, six brigades have been involved in the "Contract 18-24" pilot phase -- four ground forces brigades, one air assault brigade, and one marine brigade. The number of participating units is expected to grow after the test phase.
