Russian forces attempting to approach Kupiansk – military spox

Russian forces are trying to deploy their infantry units to the north of Kupiansk in Kharkiv region. However, Ukrainian Defense Forces maintain control over the approaches to the town.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was stated by Spokesperson for the Kharkiv Operational Tactical Group, Colonel Pavlo Shamsyn, in a televised interview.

"The Russians continue to shell Kupiansk, but there has been no success in advancing towards or around the town. We currently control the approaches to Kupiansk from the northern side. I can say that the Russians are trying to deploy infantry units to the north of Kupiansk, but they are not using armored vehicles in this area," said Shamsyn.

He further mentioned that Ukrainian forces detect and neutralize Russian infantry units and sabotage and reconnaissance groups still on the outskirts of the town. However, enemy drones are being increasingly employed.

"Also, it is important to note that the Russians are using drones with unprecedented activity. As the daylight hours increase, we notice that, for example, in February, the Russians used up to 500 drones in our sector, now that number has increased by one and a half times. This includes both kamikaze drones and drones used for bomb drops. So, if we take a certain number of shellings, two-thirds of them involve drone usage," he added.

Shamsyn highlighted the problem with drones using fiber-optic systems, as electronic warfare systems are powerless against them. These drones can reach distances of up to 15 kilometers from the frontline, primarily targeting military objects, but if no military targets are found, they could be used against civilian structures as well.

As reported by Ukrinform, on March 27, there were 209 recorded combat clashes between Ukrainian Defense Forces and Russian invaders on the front line.
