The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has streamlined the procedure for re-equipping aircraft to counter Shahed-type drones.

Ukraine's Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko reported this on Telegram.

"We are strengthening the protection of Ukraine's skies. The government has adopted a decision that allows faster upgrading of aircraft and helicopters to meet the needs of modern warfare. It is now possible to install weapons, communication systems, navigation, and target detection equipment without lengthy approvals," she noted.

According to her, the entire process will be reduced to one month. Not only enterprises but also specialists and military units will be involved in the work, allowing for a faster response to new threats and enhancing the capabilities of Ukrainian forces in repelling air attacks.

"We must change quickly and adapt our procedures to the challenges of war," Svyrydenko emphasized.

As Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov added, the range of contractors is also being expanded.

Aircraft upgrades will be carried out by equipment manufacturers, specialists, and the military units that directly operate the equipment.

"Faster aviation modernization means quicker adaptation to new threats and more capabilities for the military in combating air attacks," Fedorov stressed.

As Ukrinform reported, in March 2026, Ukraine's air defense shot down 5,935 out of 6,600 UAVs used by the Russian army to attack Ukraine.
