Criminal proceedings launched over attack on Ukrainian presidential aide's car

Criminal proceedings have been instituted after a car carrying the Ukrainian president's first aide, Serhiy Shefir, was shot at in Kyiv region early on Wednesday, September 22, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova has written on Facebook.

"The crime scene investigation team is working. Proceedings have been launched over the attempted murder of two or more persons (Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Other details and comments will be available later after the first-priority investigative actions are made and the situation is assessed," she wrote.

According to Venediktova, about ten shots were fired at the car from a 7.62mm rifle. The wounded driver was hospitalized.

She said she was at the scene together with the leadership of the National Police.

Venediktova said law enforcement officers were doing all they could to identify the perpetrators and detain them.

Earlier reports said that a car carrying a Ukrainian presidential aide, Serhiy Shefir, came under fire near the village of Lisnyky in Kyiv region early on September 22. More than ten bullets hit the car, leaving the driver wounded in the attack.
