Kyiv's Pechersky District Court has chosen measures of restraint for a U.S. citizen and a Ukrainian who, according to the investigation, were the perpetrators behind an assassination attempt on Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Roman Leshchenko, the spokesperson for the head of the National Police of Ukraine, Mariana Reva, has told Ukrinform.

"The court has chosen measures of restraint for two suspects - pre-trial detention for 60 days. [The measures of restraint have been chosen] for a U.S. citizen and a [Ukrainian] woman," she said.

As was reported earlier, Ukrainian Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky said on November 18 that law enforcement officers had thwarted an assassination attempt on Leshchenko.

According to investigators, Leshchenko's murder was ordered by a Ukrainian and a U.S. citizen.

According to media reports, the American's name is Kurt Jacob Groszhans, and the Ukrainian's name is Olena Bohach.

Leshchenko was appointed Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine in December 2020. Prior to that, he served as head of the State Service for Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre (since June 2020) and as the president's commissioner for land affairs (since October 2019).
