The Pechersky District Court of Kyiv ruled to take Oleksiy Tandyr, the head of the Makariv District Court, into custody until July 21 without the right to post bail.

"The court chose a pre-trial restraint for judge Oleksiy Tandyr, who is suspected of committing a fatal road accident while driving under the influence of alcohol, as a result of which a National Guard member was killed: remand in custody until July 21 without the right to post bail," Suspilne reports.

As reported, on the night of May 26, the head of the Makariv District Court hit and killed a 23-year-old National Guard member at a checkpoint in the capital. The police detained him.

The judge refused to take an alcohol and drug test, but he had visual clinical signs of intoxication. The court granted permission to forcibly take biological samples from him.

As a result of the road accident, criminal proceedings have been initiated under Part 3 of Article 286-1 (Violation of traffic safety rules or driving while intoxicated) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The staff of the Makariv District Court stated that they do not justify the actions of the Court’s head and are in favor of a full and impartial investigation into the tragic event.
