Shooting in Dnipro: case opens over attempted murder of patrol policemen

This is reported by the press service of the Main Department of the National Police in Dnipro region, according to Ukrinform.

"Investigators of the Main Department of the National Police in Dnipro region registered the incident in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Article 348 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The circumstances of the offense committed on August 29 against patrol police officers will be established by investigation," the statement said.

The penalty for an attempt on the life of a police officer is from nine to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment.

As reported, on August 29, two patrol police officers stopped a car with minors in it. When asked to get out of the car, the driver and passengers refused. Law enforcement officers began to force the victims out of the car and used a gas canister. During the fight, one of the police officers used his service weapon and made three shots in the man's back. The man died on the spot. The law enforcement officer was detained, and a pre-trial investigation was initiated in criminal proceedings over premeditated murder and abuse of power by law enforcement officers (Part 1 of Article 115, Part 3 of Article 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
