Ukrinform
Ukrainian prosecutors have initiated proceedings into the fact of abuse of Ukrainian prisoners of war by the Russian military in the Kharkiv axis.

That’s according to the Prosecutor General's Office, Ukrinform reports.

Under the procedural guidance of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation has been launched into the fact of violation of the laws and customs of war (Article 438 Part 1 of the Criminal Code).

The probe comes after a video appeared on social media showing the brutal treatment of Ukrainian military personnel by the invaders in the Kharkiv axis.

The video shows Russian soldiers physically assaulting unarmed Ukrainian soldiers, as well as simulating an execution by firing an automatic rifle close to a soldier’s face.

The Russians were also seen mentally abusing Ukrainian POWs by forcing them to sing a Soviet anthem.

"Such actions constitute a violation of the Geneva Conventions, according to which prisoners of war have the right to be treated humanely," the PGO stated.

Currently, measures are being taken to identify the victims and perpetrators.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada's human rights commissioner, sent official letters to the ICRC and UN asking the organizations to document the abuse of Ukrainian prisoners of war by the Russian military in the Kharkiv axis.
