The Kazakh leader instructed subordinates to file official inquiries with the Ukrainian side regarding the incident and emphasized that the authorities of Kazakhstan are ready to participate in the probe.
"You know my principled position: law and order must prevail in the country. All conflicts and disagreements in our society should be resolved exclusively in the legal field, based on our legislation and in accordance with the basic international norms," Tokayev said, emphasizing that it is from this point of view that the attack on Sadikov should be perceived.
As reported earlier, a perpetrator shot at the Kazakh journalist who was in a parked vehicle. The suspect, who is yet to be identified, is at large.
Kyiv police opened criminal proceedings into the attempt on the journalist’s life.
Sadikov’s moved to Kyiv from Kazakhstan along with his family in 2014 amid what he said was criminal persecution on political grounds.
In Ukraine, the family was granted a refugee status and ran a YouTube channel criticizing the Kazakh authorities and oligarchs. They also endorsed the 2022 protests in Kazakhstan.
In the fall of 2023, the journalist and his spouse were declared wanted in Kazakhstan on the charges of inciting enmity.
