Czech court hands down first verdict for violating Russia sanctions

This is the first such sentence handed down in the country, Ukrinform reports citing Radio Prague International.

It is noted that in May 2022, Vladimir Lihutin, a businessman of Russian origin from the Czech city of Teplice, tried to export to Russia three premium class cars while the export of cars from EU countries to the Russian Federation worth over EUR 50,000, with the exception of ambulances, is prohibited from March 2022.

According to the verdict, Lihutin must pay a fine of 300,000 crowns (almost EUR 11,500). He is also banned from selling motor vehicles for the next 20 months.

In addition, the court ordered that Lihutin pay the government nearly EUR 132,000 he received from Russian clients as advance payments.

The sentence has entered into force.

As Ukrinform reported, on July 10, a Russian citizen was arrested in Japan, who is suspected of circumventing the sanctions introduced against the Russian Federation in March 2022.
