Ukrainian activist shot dead in central Odesa

That is according to the Odesa Regional Police Department, Ukrinform reports.

The shooter fled the scene. The victim died from his injuries. The circumstances of the incident are currently being investigated by the investigative and operational group of the local police unit and forensic experts.

Efforts are underway to apprehend the shooter.

According to local Telegram channels and Member of Parliament Oleksii Honcharenko, the victim was activist Demyan Hanul.

Demyan Hanul was a Ukrainian public figure, volunteer, blogger, animal and environmental advocate, founder and head of the Street Front NGO, a participant in the Euromaidan and the 2 May opposition in Odesa against pro-Russian forces. He also served as the head of the Right Sector’s (Ukrainian paramilitary organization) branch in Odesa from 2014 to 2016.
