Ukrainian peacekeepers return from Congo
“October 21, 2020, a plane with 164 Ukrainian peacekeepers, who performed tasks as part of the 18th separate helicopter detachment of the UN Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo for ten months, landed at the Lviv Danylo Halytskyi International Airport. This is the second stage of rotation with the DRC,” the press service of the Ministry of Defence informs.
Having passed customs and border control, the peacekeepers left for the military unit stationed in Brody town where they will undergo an in-depth medical examination and will be under observation for three weeks.
In June 2020, troops of the national contingents of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo took part in joint tactical exercises. Apart from the Ukrainian crew of Mi-8 helicopter from the 18th separate helicopter detachment of the UN Mission, the servicepersons of India, Uruguay, and Guatemala took part in the exercises.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have been involved in peacekeeping operations under the auspices of the United Nations, NATO and other international organizations since 1992.
