OSCE SMM records almost 800 ceasefire violations over four days
“In Donetsk region, between the evenings of December 23 and 27, the SMM recorded 689 ceasefire violations, including 110 explosions (three impacts, 12 outgoing and 95 undetermined),” reads the OSCE SMM daily report 303/2021 issued on December 28, 2021.
The majority of ceasefire violations occurred in areas east of Chernenko
(government-controlled, 86km south of Donetsk) and north of Shyrokyne (government-controlled, 100km south of Donetsk).
In Luhansk region, over the same period, the Mission recorded 108 ceasefire violations, including 30 undetermined explosions.
The majority of ceasefire violations occurred in areas south-west, west and north of the disengagement area near Zolote (government-controlled, 60km west of Luhansk) and south-west of Popasna (government-controlled, 69km west of Luhansk).
In total, since a meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group on July 22, 2020, at which an agreement was reached to strengthen the ceasefire from July 27, the OSCE SMM has recorded at least 98,299 ceasefire violations in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
On December 9, Ukraine proposed that the OSCE should take 10 concrete steps, including a new Christmas ceasefire, in order to break the deadlock in talks on settlement of the Russian-initiated armed conflict. However, Moscow rejected the Ukrainian proposal.
