NSDC: Ukraine allocated more than UAH 1.5 trillion for security and defense last year

"In 2022, UAH 1,536.6 billion, or 32.5% of GDP, was allocated for the national security and defense of Ukraine from the general and special funds of the state budget," the press service of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine posted on Facebook.

It is noted that, according to the information of subjects of the security and defense sector, this made it possible to ensure financing of the main priority areas of their activities amid war.

In particular, these directions include the acquisition of logistics resources, the payment of rewards to military personnel, police officers, and additional remuneration in accordance with Government Resolution No. 168 dated 28 February 2022, the payment of one-time monetary assistance to the families of fallen soldiers, and other social benefits.

The NSDC informed that the preliminary report on financing the state budget articles for 2022 related to national security and defense, considered at the meeting chaired by President Zelensky on January 6, says that the expenditures of the state budget’s general fund for the security and defense sector increased with the declaration of martial law by UAH 1,231.0 billion compared to the beginning of 2022 and reached UAH 1,485.5 billion as of December 31, 2022.

The expenditures were increased by amending the Law "On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2022" (UAH 928.8 billion) and at the expense of the state budget reserve fund (UAH 302.8 billion).

It is clarified that according to operational data, the bodies of the security and defense sector increased their expenditures by UAH 188.3 billion in 2022 compared to the planned indicators of the state budget special fund (UAH 12.7 billion).

"As of December 31, 2022, the expenditures for national security and defense of Ukraine under the special fund amounted to UAH 201.0 billion. Charitable, humanitarian, and international technical assistance accounts for a significant share of the special fund revenues of the state budget of the bodies of the security and defense sector of Ukraine," the report reads.
