Armed Forces of Ukraine already have five fighter jet brigades
"Poland’s transfer of fighter jets is the first step. This is a historic step in the transfer of such a type of weapon as fighter aircraft. We have five brigades of such aircraft so far: two SU-27 brigades and three MIG-29 brigades," Yuriy Ihnat, Spokesperson for the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said on the air of Kyiv TV channel, Ukrinform reports.
These are old Soviet fighters of the fourth generation, which are morally and physically obsolete, and Ukraine needs slightly different aircraft, he added.
As reported, Poland completed the transfer of the first MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine.
Poland and Slovakia plan to hand over a total of 33 MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine: of them, Kyiv should receive 20 from Warsaw and 13 from Bratislava. According to preliminary information, these countries have already transferred four MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine.
