Pentagon clarifies how much money left for security aid to Ukraine

This was stated on Thursday by the spokesman for the U.S. Department of Defense, General Patrick Ryder, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

$2.21 billion remains under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), as well as $6.8 billion under the presidential authority, the spokesman for the DoD noted.

In response to the question of whether the Pentagon will have time to ensure the transfer of all assistance to Ukraine before the end of the current administration’s term, the general noted that his department received an instruction from the White House. Its essence, he said, is to make every effort to continue to provide assistance to Ukraine in an accelerated manner and use the powers that are available.

Ryder emphasized that this is exactly what the Pentagon is doing.

What has not changed in the DoD is the sense of urgency to provide support to Ukraine, the US Defense Department representative added.

He emphasized that the United States would continue to do this on its part, as well as remain in contact the Ukrainian side, allies and partners to provide Ukraine with capabilities to defend its freedom and sovereignty.

As Ukrinform reported, in April last year, the U.S. Congress approved a large-scale package of assistance to Ukraine and response to Russia’s armed aggression in Europe worth more than $61 billion.
