MoD allocates UAH 12.3B for combat brigades since year-start
This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to the Ministry’s press service.
It is noted that these funds are intended for the purchase of unmanned aerial vehicles, electronic warfare equipment, transport and other critical equipment to increase the efficiency of units fighting on the front line.
Within the framework of the "Drone Line" project initiated by President Volodymyr Zelensky, the five combat units recognized as most successful in the use of UAVs were given the opportunity to independently procure drones, electronic warfare equipment, and vehicles for mobile fire groups. Drones will allow for forming killzones on the front lines and prevent maneuvers by enemy manpower and equipment.
Quick financing of combat units is MoD’s priority, the statement reads. Defenders on the ground best understand the current needs on specific sections of the front line, so they can independently determine the priority purchases in terms of UAVs, the press service emphasized.
"The Ministry of Defense seeks to deliver new Ukrainian drones to combat brigades as soon as possible. That is why at the beginning of 2025, the procurement rules for military units were amended, allowed them to purchase both codified and non-codified products under streamlined procedures. Such rapid purchases allow combat brigades to test the best innovative samples of domestic UAVs directly on the battlefield and offer them for scaling to the country's military and political leadership," said Hlib Kanevsky, chief of the MoD Procurement Policy Department.
The ministry emphasized that it will pursue the practice of directly financing combat brigades, providing them with the opportunity to independently determine their priority needs and strengthen the country’s defense capability.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, the participants in the Drone Coalition for Ukraine have decided to allocate EUR 20 million from a common fund to purchase tactical-level reconnaissance UAVs (ISR) for Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
