ICAO Secretary General to visit Ukraine

KYIV, May 21 /UKRINFORM/. Raymond Benjamin, Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), is arriving in Ukraine on Monday, the Ministry of Infrastructure said in a statement.

"During a three-day visit there will be a series of meetings with the leaders of the aviation industry on the possibility of subsequent integration of Ukraine into the international air transport system," the ministry noted.

A specialized agency of the United Nations, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) was created in 1944 to promote the safe and orderly development of international civil aviation throughout the world. It sets standards and regulations necessary for aviation safety, security, efficiency and regularity, as well as for aviation environmental protection. The Organization serves as the forum for cooperation in all fields of civil aviation among its 191 Member States.

Ukraine has been a member of ICAO since September 9, 1992.
