The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to sign additional agreements to the September 17, 2014 agreement on the fulfillment of tasks in the sphere of development between the governments of Ukraine and the United States as part of which Kyiv will additionally get nearly $78 million.

The relevant regulations were drafted by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade in connection with the intentions of the U.S. government to provide additional funds for the implementation of the goals set out in the relevant agreement, according to the website of the Ukrainian government.

The report notes that the signing of an additional agreement on ensuring sustainable economic development will create the necessary legislative conditions for the U.S. government to allocate additional technical assistance in the amount of over $54.4 million. These funds will be aimed at ensuring the availability of middle class investment activities in Ukraine, strengthening the potential of the private sector of the economy, increasing energy efficiency of the Ukrainian economy and its energy security, and increasing agricultural production.

Thus, the total amount of technical assistance directed for the stated goals as part of the agreement, taking into account additional funds, will reach more than $139 million.

An additional agreement on assistance in reforming governance will ensure the allocation by the U.S. government of additional funds in the form of technical assistance worth over $23.6 million. Respective funds will be directed towards improving the legislative environment in line with European standards, improving civil oversight and citizen participation in governance processes, and as well as increasing the level of accountability of the government to Ukrainian citizens and the rule of law.

The total amount of technical assistance under this agreement, taking into account additional funds, will reach over $62 million.
